App Store rank & keyword tracking

Partner Metrics crawls the public Shopify App Store daily and turns it into position-over-time charts for the categories, search keywords and competitor apps you follow.

What gets tracked

  • Category rankings: your position in every category your app belongs to, and in any category you follow, charted over time
  • Keyword rankings: where apps place in App Store search results for the keywords you follow
  • Listing health: rating, review count, the Built for Shopify badge and editorial “Featured in” placements, snapshotted daily for each of your apps
  • Market movement: fastest-growing apps, review gainers and losers, and newly launched apps across the store

Following apps, keywords and categories

Open the Shopify App Store page in the app. Follow competitor apps from any leaderboard, follow search keywords with the keyword editor (it autocompletes against already-tracked terms and accepts free text), and follow whole categories to keep their leaderboards on your radar. Followed keywords can also be edited in each app’s settings.

How the crawl works

  • Category rankings refresh twice a day, at 00:00 and 12:00 UTC, together with the daily listing snapshot of your own apps
  • Keyword rankings refresh once a day at 03:00 UTC
  • New follows fill immediately: when you follow a keyword that has never been crawled, a background crawl runs right away so its chart doesn’t wait for the next scheduled run
Ranking history is shared and global: positions are recorded for every app found in a crawled category or search result, not just the follower’s. Popular keywords and categories therefore come with history already filled in when you first follow them.

Reading the charts

Each followed category and keyword renders a position-over-time chart (lower is better; position 1 is the top result) alongside a current leaderboard table. Use them to correlate ranking moves with listing changes, releases or review momentum, and watch the fastest-growers view to catch rising competitors early.
